GROW - Supporting Learners' Success in Pacific Languages

This course is designed to support teachers of Pacific languages in schools.

This course is for Teachers in schools offering Pacific language programmes at Years 7-10.

This course is delivered through two full-day face-to-face workshops, four online workshops, and in-school support visits.

This course is delivered through two full-day face-to-face workshops, four online workshops, and in-school support visits.

Course Details:

Important note: Dates are now confirmed and and workshop venues for face-to-face workshops to be advised.

Workshop 1 (online): Introduction to the course, meet and share contexts, Professional Growth Cycle (PGC) requirements.
- Auckland cluster: Monday 30th March, 3:30pm-5:00pm
- Wellington cluster: Tuesday 31st March, 3:30pm-5:00pm

Workshop 2 (full-day face-to-face): Understanding our strengths, Learners at the centre, Curriculum and implications for language programme, Principles for instructed second-language acquisition. The importance of evidence.
- Auckland cluster: Wednesday 27th May, 9:30am-3:30pm
- Wellington cluster: Thursday 21st May 9:30am-3:30pm

Workshop 3 (online): Developing nurturing environments for bilingual and multilingual learners.
- Auckland cluster: Wednesday 24th June, 3:30pm-5:00pm
- Wellington cluster: Thursday 25th June, 3:30pm-5:00pm

Workshop 4 (full-day face-to-face) : Share, support and collaborate. Strategies, research and resources to support teacher inquiry in language classrooms.
- Auckland cluster: Thursday 6th August, 9:30am-3:30pm
- Wellington cluster: Thursday 13th August, 9:30am-3:30pm

Workshop 5 (online): Engaging parents, families and community to strengthen Pasifika success.
- Auckland cluster: Tuesday 15th September, 3:30pm-5:00pm
- Wellington cluster: Thursday 10th September, 3:30pm-5:00pm

Workshop 6 (online): Professional Growth Cycle Presentations.
- Auckland cluster: Wednesday 28th October, 3:30pm-5:00pm
- Wellington cluster: Thursday 29th October, 3:30pm-5:00pm

Cost:

Covered by Language Circle - 1 x Teacher release day, 2 x School visits if required, 2 x Face to Face workshops, Airfares to and from face to face workshops/ shuttle to and from airport to workshop venue/ accommodation if required, Catering for workshops.

Not covered by Language Circle (School or Teachers to cover) - Transport cost including parking to and from the airport in your home town, one Teacher Release Day for the face to face workshops and release time for an hour after the practice analysis visit/ preferably straight after the visit.
