The Life and Legacy of Venerable Suzanne Aubert

- Share a Legacy: Introduce young New Zealanders to the inspiring story of Venerable Suzanne Aubert. 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of her passing.
- Learn French in Action: Provide an authentic, engaging context for students to practice and apply their French language skills.
- Foster Teamwork: Encourage collaboration among students.
- Support Teachers: Offer a meaningful, low-preparation cross-curricular resource.
- The Task: Create a comic strip illustrating a specific period in the life of Venerable Suzanne Aubert (see the list of themes below).
- Eligibility: Open to students from Year 5 to Year 10.
- Team Size: Groups of 1 to 5 students per comic strip.
- Submissions: Your teacher will submit all entries. There is no limit to the number of entries a school can submit.

1. Length: Between 1 and 3 A4 pages of illustrations.
2. Language: All text in speech bubbles and/or captions must be in French.
3. Focus: The chosen period of Suzanne Aubert’s life must be clearly defined and historically accurate.
4. Tools & Software:
- No Canva may be used.
- No AI (Artificial Intelligence) may be used in any way.
5. Sources: If any image is copied or borrowed, the original source must be acknowledged.
6. Formatting: Submit your scanned work as a PDF file.
- Name the file using the format: [SchoolName]_[AgeGroup]_[ChosenPeriod] (e.g., SilverwoodIntermediate_Y7-8_Hiruharama.pdf).
- Write the author(s) name(s) clearly on either the front cover or the final page.
Enter the competition: Send an email to sonia.lucchese@languagecircle.co.nz with the name of your kura and the chosen theme / period of life by 23rd of October 2026.
Submission Deadline: Send in your work by clicking the register button on this page by 7pm on Saturday, 28th November 2026.
Winner Announcement: Wednesday, 2nd December 2026.
Prizes: The top 3 entries overall will receive a prize!
Special Award: Best Front Cover (exclusive to Years 5-8)
The judges are representatives from Language Circle, Ambassade de France en Nouvelle-Zélande and The Sisters of Compassion.
Entries will be evaluated based on:
- Informative value & factual correctness
- Illustration quality & creativity
- Overall design & visual appeal
- Legibility (clear text and layout)
By entering the competition, participants agree that the best illustration for each period of Suzanne Aubert’s life will becollated to publish a collaborative book titled “L’histoire de la Vénérable Suzanne Aubert”. Every participating school will receive a copy of the final work!
