This workshop explores the connections between curriculum, the Science of Learning, and classroom practice, and considers how Japanese language learning can support learner development.

Supporting Learners Through Japanese: From Curriculum to Classroom
This workshop explores how curriculum, the Science of Learning, and classroom practice can work together to support learners through Japanese. Participants will examine the broader value of learning Japanese, explore key ideas underpinning the New Zealand Curriculum, and consider how research-informed approaches can strengthen language learning.
Throughout the workshop, participants will:
- explore the place and value of Japanese language learning in the New Zealand Curriculum
- explore key theories and ideas that underpin the New Zealand Curriculum
- experience practical approaches for supporting input and output in language classrooms
- reflect on their own teaching practice and identify next steps for development
- connect and collaborate with fellow Japanese language teachers
Teachers of Japanese (primarily Auckland-based teachers, but open to all who can attend in person).
Morning session will be presented in Japanese, supported by English-language slides.
Afternoon session will be delivered mainly in English, with some Japanese used throughout the workshop.
Language Circle is funded to provide professional learning for provisionally and fully registered Primary, Intermediate and Secondary teachers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
