Sonia Lucchese (Tangata Tiriti) is an innovative educator with almost 20 years of teaching experience across the motu (Tāmaki Makaurau and Ōtautahi). Bringing a wealth of experience ranging from primary to adult education, Sonia has a diverse background in language teaching (French, German, Te Reo Māori), bilingual settings, and tertiary teaching practices.
Sonia is deeply passionate about empowering kaiako on their culturally responsive journeys. She contributed her expertise to the advisory group for The Hikairo Schema (Primary and Secondary editions) and is featured in the Secondary School edition. As a Ministry of Education accredited facilitator, she supported teachers of all subjects throughout New Zealand with integrating mātauranga Māori into their respective practices.
Currently teaching French and Te Ao Māori part-time in Ōtautahi, Sonia is committed to engaging teachers in meaningful professional learning and improving outcomes for students in French.
Passionate about lifelong learning, Sonia holds a Master’s in Education – learning and teaching languages, a Certificate (level 4) in te reo māori, and a diploma (Level 5) in raranga.
